Traditional Japanese Irezumi is uniquely suited for many cover-up projects because of its flowing compositions, bold imagery, rich background elements, and thoughtful use of movement. Subjects such as dragons, koi, tigers, Hannya, Oni, flowers, clouds, waves, and wind bars can often be designed to work with existing tattoos while creating a cohesive new composition.

Every cover-up presents its own challenges.

The size, color saturation, placement, and age of the existing tattoo all influence the design process. During your consultation, we'll carefully evaluate your current tattoo and discuss the best approach for achieving a result that is both beautiful and respectful of traditional Japanese composition.

My goal is to create artwork that feels intentional—as though it was always meant to be there.

Some projects may benefit from lightening the existing tattoo through laser treatments before beginning the new design. If that approach offers the best long-term result, we'll discuss it honestly during your consultation and create a plan that works for your individual project.
